AMADEUS REMASTERED HD - MOZART INSULTS SALIERI BY PLAYING HIS OWN PIECE BETTER THAN HE DID

  • ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ 2 ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ

    Elsa Anna ArendelleElsa Anna Arendelle

This is one of my favorite scenes from Amadeus. It is rare for a film to have two actors be nominated for the same award. Thomas Hulce eventually lost to F. Murray Abraham at the Oscars, but there is no denying that both gave outstanding performances.

It was said that the real Mozart had a very childlike laugh which Hulce does his best imaginative version of. The laugh is so jarring and out of the blue that it catches the Emperor off guard twice.

Mozart is either arrogant or socially unaware because he insults Salieri multiple times. As Mozart plays Salieri's little march and notes "the rest is just the same, isn't it?" you can see how maligned Salieri felt. Then to top it off Mozart declares "that doesn't quite work, now does it?" and then proceeds to take Salieri's tune and add embellishments and improvisation such that Salieri can only look on in jealousy mixed with resentment.

Salieri's jealousy and contempt for Mozart is best summed up with the line "Grazie, Signore..." as he looks up at the crucifix.

All rights to Amadeus (Orion pictures).

Elsa Anna Arendelle

The emperor butchered Salieri's piece, but Mozart was able to play it perfectly by only hearing it and then improvising the melody... "the rest is just the same, isn't it?" Mozart so innocent in his behavior he doesn't realize how insulting he is LOL

Its a bullshit movie on facts. The "rivalry" between Salieri and Mozart didn't exist. I can't believe this comment got so many likes. Goes to show how people believe anything these days, just because its in a movie. God help us....

He tells Salieri that he "composed some variations of one of his songs." When Salieri looks flattered, Wolfgang then says "Funny little tune, but it yielded some great results." Thats a subtle ouch for Salieri. His own composition was "a funny little tune," but yielded great results after another composer, Wolfgang, had made different variations out if it. Lol, poor Salieri. Dissed in front of his majesty more than once in this little scene.

THIIS NEVER HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE! MOZART and Salieri had little contact and this "plot" of Salieri's NEVER HAPPENED! I hated this movie for what it did to the REAL LIFE of Mozart! All but one of Mozart's children died of STARVATION because the titled Dukes etc. didn't pay him what was promised! AND HE NEVER did this scene in real life! THIS was FICTION!

We had a performance of one of Salieri's German language singspiels,"The Chimneysweep" in Sydney a few years ago -Salieri wrote to Italian,French and German texts so was very versatile and quite talented. Also several decades ago when a replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre was made in Tokyo,Japan the first production there was not a play by Shakespeare himself but the opera "Falstaff" by Salieri which was inspired by the Shakespeare English history plays of course. So Salieri is still around.Cecilia Bartoli has made a CD of Salieri arias.

I thought this was such a great movie. I really loved it. That was 30 years ago. I was not as weary back then, and I thought the movie would be made from pieces of written history. Part of that would be eye witness testimony (or ear witness testimony). But then some years later I changed my mind about the sources of the script. The biggest question here is not did he exist, and write fabulous pieces of music since he was a kid. The biggest question here is how much of the story is based on truth, and how much of it is Hollywood spicing it up to make it more exciting. What if only 20% of it was factual??? Does anyone really know here???

It seems to me that Mozart was probably on the autistic spectrum, and his social interactions suffered because of this. His being able to speak a language backward with ease ("uoy evol I tub" he tells Constance under the table--"but I love you"); the music appearing without mistakes in his head, ready for transcription; remembering music after one hearing--are all savant skills. That he was exhibited like a performing monkey by his father since age 5 could not have been good for his social skills.

I've seen the movie many times and watched his clip here on YT probably fifty times as it's such a masterful scene but I only just now noticed a continuity error. When Mozart first meets the Emperor, the Emperoro takes the Salieri march off the piano and holds it but in a later moment the notation is back on the piano and the Emperor again reaches to take it off before offering it to Mozart.
